Designer and illustrator Ricardo Cavolo recent collaboration with Beans & Bacon is a good excuse to look back at the many t-shirt designs from this artist, whose naïf style, that draws inspiration from traditional circus scenes, classic tatoo iconography and the beauty of the terrible, is both distinctive and exciting. Through collaborations with brands and studios such as Ambig, Boo, Syndicate, Phucisme, Wolves Kill Sheep and his own t-shirts sold through Society6, we can enjoy this talented artist’s world. Also, check out his illustrated novel El desorganismo de Daniel Johnston, one of this year’s nicer surprises.

Black Scale showcases “BLVCK SEV”, a capsule collection for the opening of their Seattle pop-up store on june 15th. The highlight is the collaboration with photographer Charles Peterson, whose shots are considered as the more prominent chronicle of the grunge scene. He’s shot some of the more iconic images of bands such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden or Mudhoney and a number of record covers for legendary Sub Pop record label. Peterson’s sensibility and Black Scale’s sober and urban style result in a short but potent collection as seen in their cool lookbook video.

Band t-shirts unfortunately end up depending too much on record cover design or the band’s logo. Madrid band Toundra, one of Spain’s indie scene nicest surprises over the last years, also take great care in their record, poster and t-shirt design. With the collaboration of some really talented studios such as Sing & Design or mdonada, Toundra have managed to create a line of t-shirts (over a dozen different models, some of them only available at their gigs) that rock as much as their music. Here’s some examples:

This summer season is all about shirts with crazy prints and this tee is a good way of taking the trend to a t-shirt

Street and, in this case, music festivals, are the natural environment for t-shirts. We had a great time at Primavera Sound Porto and we took some snapshots.
